Gateway Assessments

How to Get Advice

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we operate a ‘drop-in’ service.

Come into the bureau between the hours of 10:00 – 4:00 (on the days specified above) and depending on the number of volunteer advisers on duty, you will be seen for approximately 15 minutes. This is known as a gateway assessment and is used to establish how our volunteer advisers can best help you.

Tuesdays are appointments only – to make an appointment you will first need to either attend a drop-in at the bureau or telephone 08444 77 22 32 for a gateway assessment.

Please note we are closed on Fridays

We may enable you to deal with your enquiry by providing information e.g. a leaflet or fact sheet

  • Signposting / referring to an appropriate external organisation
  • Make an internal appointment for general advice or a particular service such as form filling. If your need is particularly urgent it may be possible to offer an appointment later the same day.

The aim of this procedure is to reduce waiting time and to provide the most appropriate and efficient manner of helping you.

This system will also be used for clients telephoning for advice.

An hour is allowed for each appointment.

Please note that should you need advice at a later date you will need to use the drop in service again.
